Her jail sentence should be equal to that of any dealer. She also needs to be sterilized and her children taken away from her. If the fathers don’t want the children they need to be given up for adoption. This is the reason why conservatives of both parties hate social services….this type of scenario is all too common.

Why would this be the “typical Welfare” recipient? Most recipients have no more than two children and these days have a JOB.

You need to do a bit of research. Calling this person a typical welfare recipient is like calling Sen. Craig a typical member of Congress. It’s ridiculous.

Besides, if it was “typical”, why would it be NEWS?

Look, I’m all for reform to weed out the loafers from people who truly need the help… but are you seriously going to tell me you support the government regulating procreation? I would hope not.

Welfare is a good thing, it just needs some tweaks, not to be dismantled.

As for the lady.. she should lose all rights to her children until she can prove to a court she is reformed…. and I’d be all for probation and rehab… on one condition… if she can’t get it together within 1 year.. her jail sentence is extended and invoked.

This woman should never see the sun a free person again.

Under ordinary circumstances I would be against governmental regulation of procreation, but for her and people like her I would make an exception.

This person is unfit to have children, and is a danger to be around children. She at the very least should be treated like a sex offender and ordered to stay at least 100 yards from children at all times.

She got off easy.

Five years is not enough…. how about assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, reckless endangerment, I am sure there are more charges that could have been brought against this “mother”.
How dare her lawyer ask for drug treatment in lieu of prison!! Give her treatment AFTER prison, and for God’s sake never let her have her children back.
As for the welfare situation, I am sure this could easily have been an upper class mom too. Crack cocaine is everywhere. The fact that it was a welfare mother has nothing to do with the drug use.

Thank you LBJ. This is an illustration of how the welfare system has failed. While there are many who are in the system who are deserving help, this woman obviously wasted her chance.
Personally, I would never have lowered the original charge. She should spend as much time behind bars as possible.
She has already ruined her children’s lives by indulging in illegal behavior and then compounds the problem in teaching one how to smoke crack. This is unforgivable.
How are her offspring going to be when they reach her age? Are they going to be productive law abiding citizens? From the standard she has already set, I would expect they would follow in the footsteps of the mother.
It’s too bad the Liberal welfare state can’t understand or see what it’s done to those who need help.
Yes, we do need change. However, it’s not the change Obama or Hillary, or even McCain are promising.
