Is This Evidence of Brain Damage?

Question by Robert: Is this evidence of brain damage?
Hello, I’m 17 years old and have been smoking weed everyday since January of this year. I have been drunk probably close to 50 times as well. My marijuana use in the recent past has been extensive to say the least – I would smoke all day (approx. 1-3gs a day). Anyway since July I have has this fear that I am losing cognitive functioning and I that I can no longer articulate correctly. I often find myself using awkward wording and sometimes even the wrongs words, and this only started after months of marijuana use. However, I am also a naturally anxious person and a hypochondriac, I have been on medication for anxiety in the past, but I have sense quit using them, as most of my symptoms alleviated themselves. Anyway, my question is, do you think I have permanent brain damage? Will I recover with abstinence? Or is this all anxiety, and my symptoms are being cause by hyper-vigilance over what I am saying? I used to be a master of words and now i find it difficult to even form one coherent sentence. Please help me.

I do that, too, but I only inhaled weed, never really smoked it. Like the other answerer said, “It may be permanent.”

Actually, for a 17 year old who’s got problems with drugs and alcohol, your vocabulary, spelling and grammar is a lot better than people twice your age, from what I’ve seen.

Since your anxiety pills started to lose effect, you should go back to whoever prescribed them and get them to give you some new ones which are going to suit you better. As for the rest, it’s most likely that it’s because of your body getting used to feeling like it, almost instinctively I guess?

If you stop using them for at least a year, it should slowly start to get back to normal. But there’s no way in hell that you’d be able to do that with sheer will power, especially with anxiety problems already. I would have a serious talk to the doctor that prescribed the anxiety pills and see what they say.

They might stick you on a rehab program, some medication to counter the effects of the weed, it really depends on what they say. I know that a lot of people see “rehab” and panic, but honestly, even though it’s hard, it does help you get back to normal, and you need it if you really want to get your brain back in gear too.

Good luck with it all :3
