Depends on the farm. Ammonia is found on many farms and can be considered harmful. Metolachlor and Glufosinate ammonium are on many farms and are definitely harmful.

Endosulfan, an antiquated insecticide (baned in more than 15 countries) is “one of the most commonly detected residues in our nation’s food supply.” PAN released a report documenting the presence of endosulfan… that drifted in from nearby farms… in the air near a school in rural Florida. “Four pesticides were identified in the samples: the insecticides endosulfan and diazinon, the herbicide trifluralin, and the fungicide chlorothalonil. Of the samples collected, 56% contained three of the four pesticides, and 18% contained all four pesticides.” :

“Japanese shoppers were reportedly “horrified” by the discovery that 102,053 red bean onigiri rice balls sold in supermarkets and stores over a five-month period were contaminated with mold and the pesticide methamidophos. According to the Associated Press, the tainted rice was intended “for industrial uses such as the manufacture of glue” but a rice trader in Osaka shipped the contaminated rice to sweets and liquor makers as well as some 370 food companies while “several chemical companies, including a glue maker, also shipped tainted rice as food.” The AP reports the rice, “imported from China, Vietnam and the United States, was shipped to food companies, schools, day-care centers and nursing homes.”
