How Come Questions About Sobriety Only Get 12-Step Answers, Never SMART Recovery or CRAFT?
Question by Henry S: How come questions about sobriety only get 12-step answers, never SMART Recovery or CRAFT?
CRAFT (Community Reinforcement Approach Family Training) as described in Meyers and Wolfe’s book One Sober: Alternatives to nagging, pleading and threatening – from Hazelden Press! – describes a non-confrontational approach to helping others get sober that works. In research it did 6 X better than Alannon (which doesn’t actually aim to help but rather helps people let go) and 2X better than the Johnson Institute “intervention” (which makes people angry and feel they’ve been attacked). Also, SMART (Self-Management And Recovery Training) at www.smartrecovery.org offers a similar science-based and secular approach that is much more appealing to folks who don’t beleive in a Higher Power who will fix it if properly prayed to and appeased, and SMART Recovery is based on approachs proven to work. So why are all the answers to such questions always AA, 12-step, anonymous group oriented?
Am I a Bad Person for Not Wanting Any Contact With My Brothers Anymore?
Question by Maura: Am I a bad person for not wanting any contact with my brothers anymore?
I’m seventeen years old. I have two older brothers, 22 and 27. Since I was little, neither of them have been much of a “brotherly” figure. Having a ten year difference between the oldest did not really help, as we’ve never had anything in common, and he was always getting into trouble. He dropped out of school when he was 16 and continued to live in my parents basement for years and years, unable to hold on a job, etc. I blame my mother in some ways for letting it go on as much as it did. There were periodic fights between him and my other brother, (physical), he punched three holes in our wall, ripped the basement handle that leads down the stairs off, and would cause my mom to go into hysteric and bouts of depression. It caused many fights between my mom and my dad, and many times my brother and I would sit outside while they all yelled. I’ve never wanted any form of relationship with him, at all, whatsoever, and I’ve actually for many years been afraid of him.

Does Anyone Watch”Intervention”, Can U Explain Something?
Question by amaital: Does anyone watch”Intervention”, can u explain something?
I have seen a few episodes, I find the show depressing and sad. I don’t understand this; the addicts LOVE their drugs, they LOVE being high .Yes, they look awful but they are so happy on their drugs!! Than they have the intervention, they ALL go (at least the episodes Ive seen). They revisit 6 weeks later or whatever and they are again SO HAPPY?!!? So, if they loved being high SO much,HOW can they be like beaming and thankful”for the air and sunshine” a few weeks later? Doesn’t make sense? Can someone with PERSONAL exp. answer please? Ive deleted show from my playlist because its too sad to watch
Thanks

Does Anyone Watch Intervention and if So, Has Any Particular Episode Really Touched You?
Question by Chloe: Does anyone watch Intervention and if so, has any particular episode really touched you?
I love the show. I think it’s wonderful how the producers are literally saving most of these people’s lives. The only thing that bothers me is that there are so many addicts that want to go to rehab but can’t afford it and a lot of the people on “Intervention” or almost forced to go by ultimatums (like family members saying that they will no longer talk to them or give them money or will kick them out) and then a handful leave or get kicked out of these expensive rehabs. It is a really touching show though. I’m a recovering addict and alcoholic myself and I see myself in everyone of those people. I only wish that they could get more money via donations and help even more people than they are currently helping.
